Book giveaway at book-blog.com: Francine Prose, Reading Like a Writer

I happen to have in my possession a hardcover copy of Francine Prose's new book, Reading Like a Writer. Here's what Publisher's Weekly has to say about it:

"The trick to writing, Prose writes, is reading—carefully, deliberately and slowly. While this might seem like a no-brainer, Prose (Blue Angel; A Changed Man) masterfully meditates on how quality reading informs great writing, which will warm the cold, jaded hearts of even the most frustrated, unappreciated and unpublished writers. ... Prose's guide to reading and writing belongs on every writer's bookshelf alongside E.M. Forster's Aspects of the Novel."
So, what's this to you? I mean to give this book away. Here's what you have to do to win it:

(1) Write a haiku that contains the word "prose"--used either as a proper noun or not.

(2) Post your haiku on your blog, with a link to the giveaway at book-blog.com.

(3) Let me know about your post by adding a comment here or at book-blog.com.

Post your haikus on or before August 30th, 2006. I'll collect the entries and my daughter (aged ten) and I will pore through them and decide which we like the best. I'll announce a winner on August 31st.

1.

I sent the link to Frank, whose posted about it on Books, Inq. just now.

2.

Thanks, Maxine! You guys move fast.

3.

My gosh, I never imagined our Douglas as a poet, but he left a haiku at my blog while instructing me on linking to specific posts... I love poetry so I'm a relatively critical reader. I really, really like Douglas' haiku!!!

Just in case he doesn't post it...

Crack between the worlds
Opens between just two words.
Yet they call it prose?

4.

The irony there, by the way, Susan, was that while saying you didn't know how to post to a specific page, you posted to a specific page.

I'll check out Douglas's post. Thanks for his haiku! I'll add it at the book-blog. We need more of them!

5.

Actually, as I just mentioned at your site, Susan, it occurs to me that I shouldn't add his haiku yet because it's not strictly conforming to the rules of the contest unless he posts it at his site with a link to the contest. So, do it, Douglas! But then I was startled to see that Douglas's blog has disappeared this morning. Which isn't good.

6.

Okay, so I was misspelling crosswordbebop. So sue me! His blog was never gone, it was ME, okay?! My fault!

7.

I love the echo of stamping feet!

8.

I have followed your directions. Will I be directed directly in the right direction?

9.

Er....yes! And I mean that sincerely. I'll link to you at the book-blog.

I know you're still reeling from yesterday's loss, so I'm grateful for your visit here....
